Peter Brötzmann, the saxophone and clarinet player, producer and probably the most iconic and central figure in European free jazz and free improvisation scene, has died at age of 82 on Friday 23 June. He was known for his explosive and violent style of playing, very expressive approach toward music and unapologetic manner.

He started his career during 60’s. His prominent manifestolike album, Machine Gun was published on 1968, featuring some of the greatest figure of European free improvisation scene like Evan Parker, Fred Van Hove, Peter Kowald and Han Bennink.

During more than half century of his career he always tried to explore different styles and genres of music to expand the concept of free improvisation beyond the definitions and borders of styles and genres.
