Pasmo gościnne: Mykola Lebed

10/05/2023

In a guest mix for Radio Kapital, Mykola Lebed exposes a small part of Ukrainian experimental music, which is blooming while the country fights for its freedom. The sounds here are from Mykola’s own unreleased compositions, ephemeral tracks of Evelina Stebelska and Svitlana Nianio, oriental ambient of Emil Asad to medieval Heinali’s chorals and intimate drone-pop of Forma Avangard.

Mykola Lebed is a Ukrainian composer, multi-instrumentalist and artist who works at the intersection of acoustic and electronic music. Mainly known as a saxophone player from the Ukrainian free improvisation and psychedelic music scenes, Mykola is not limited to just one instrument. His solo works range from minimalistic piano pieces and solo sax improvs, through ambient and leftfield electronics to the intense „all-together” heights, which you can usually reach at his live performances. By combining tembral diversity with a free jazz approach, Mykola creates a multi-layered stream of feelings, full of intimate insights and experiences. Being a long-run member and well-known figure of the scene, Mykola also gathers his findings and works of colleagues in his mixes for Gasoline Radio (Kyiv, Ukraine).
