they was groovin confused: W/ TONAK GUEST MIX

I started thinking about this compilation during my trip to Poland last month. Strolling through the
streets of central Warsaw, I was immediately enveloped by a warm and pleasant atmosphere.
However, it was hard to ignore the weight of the city’s post-Soviet heritage and history-filled
architecture. My intention was to convey this contrast through a soundtrack that would
accompany my walk. I blended sounds imbued with Afro-Caribbean influences with others with
harsher, colder, percussive tones.
The choice of Lucas Babinet’s photograph is a good illustration of this contrast, with the bright
colors I’ve chosen to use in dialogue with the drab atmosphere of the Paris metro. ~ TONAK
